HONOR
SERVE ADVOCATE
"The San Francisco Veterans Equity Center honors the valuable contribution
of Filipino American WWII Veterans to freedom and democracy; Provides
culturally and linguistically appropriate services and advocates for JUSTICE
and EQUITY."
The San
Francisco Veterans Equity Center is a multi-functional community center
designed to provide linguistically competent and culturally appropriate
services and programs for the primary benefit of the estimated 4,000
Filipino-American World War II veterans and their immediate families living
in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The center is located at 1099 Mission Street, in San
Francisco's South of Market area and is open Monday-Friday 9am-12pm, 1pm-5pm to serve
primarily the elderly war veterans living in isolation and in substandard
living conditions in the South of Market, Tenderloin and Mission
neighborhoods.
Collaborative Efforts to Establish the Center
At present, the center is collaborating with other service
agencies and community based organizations to provide services to the
veterans at the center. This will avoid duplication of services and enhance
existing services at the same time addressing the unmet needs of this
special elderly population.
